Edgar Renteria had title-deciding swing in 3 decades

Via St. Louis’ own Derrick Goold (twitter):

Renteria will have had the title-deciding swing in three different decades

1997 (Marlins, game-winning RBI), 2004 (final out in game 4 for Cardinals), 2010 (3-run homer to put the Giants ahead).

Wow.

Baseball is a crazy game

Have you ever stopped to think how crazy it is that the Molina family can boast of three brothers who all play in the major leagues, all play the same position (catcher), and have all won World Series rings? Now two of the brothers (Yadier and Benjie) have hit memorable postseason home runs sending their respective teams to the World Series to defeat New York on the exact same day (October 19) in the exact same city just four years apart. Even the camera angles following Benjie around the bases were remarkably similar to the footage that captured Yadi’s trip around the diamond.

Chirpin’ Hard

Chirpin’ Hard is back, in case you didn’t know. It’s my spot on the intarwebs to kvetch about sports. This time, though, the blog is powered by tumblr, not WordPress.

(I know, I know – I still love WordPress, but I wanted to give tumblr a rip to see how quickly the posts could get picked up by others. The answer? Quickly.)

Chirpin’ Hard

I’m putting all sports-related content over at Chirpin’ Hard. It’s back. And on Tumblr.

Not even a snowball’s chance in hell…

Proof positive that crack is wack. I’ve even heard rumors that if you’re a season ticket holder, you’re charged for the playoff tickets and don’t get a refund – instead, you get a credit for next year’s season tickets.

Look, I love the Cardinals, and I have a good friend who works in the ticketing office, but this policy is nuts.

Cardinals organist Ernie Hays to retire at the end of the season

Ernie Hays – quick with a really, really dirty joke and friend of my father – is retiring at the end of this season. Crushed by the news, do you think LaRussa and company will follow?
